Cally and Dave got married in December 2015 at the fabulous 66 Portland Place in London (home of the Royal Institute of British Architects) – a fascinating building with art deco interiors nestled between the peace of London’s Regent’s Park and the buzz of Oxford Street.
Cally’s vision for the wedding was romantic and ethereal but the couple also wanted to bring in nods to Dave’s Scottish roots after choosing to tie the knot in Cally’s childhood home of London.
We brought their vision to life by filling the venue with candles and fairylights and foliage inspired by Scotland and a winter forest (think moss, logs, willow and of course, thistles) – by the amazing Clare at Love Blooms. On arrival guests ascended the candle-lit marble staircase to the sound of highland bagpipes (played expertly by the London Piper) and into the light-filled ceremony room where a willow arch was the focal point of the room and where the kilt-clad groom awaited his bride. The bride wore an Alan Hannah dress from Teokath in Wimbledon and carried a winter bouquet as she walked down the aisle to Etta James’ ‘At Last’.
After the ceremony guests kept warm with a cocktail hour of espresso martinis before taking their seats for the wedding breakfast. Cally and Dave were played into their reception by the sounds of the bagpipes and guests sat at tables named after the Scottish Isles. The enchanted forest theme was kept alive by table centre-pieces of bell-jars filled with fairylights, flowers, moss and succulents, while Scotland was represented by favours of whiskey-filled miniature demijohns and a piece of homemade tablet (a traditional Scottish sweet treat).
The after-dinner dancing was fuelled by the sweet table and tunes provided by DJ Sam – including a very energetic dance-off and the bride and groom being sent off to what else but The Proclaimers!
Congratulations to Cally and Dave who’ve just celebrated their first anniversary.
